Buckle Up, Stop Texting campaign, or B.U.S.T. will present the dangers of texting while driving in the LHS auditorium on February 11th at 1pm for the junior high and high school students and staff. Nicole Smith, Llano Junior High Principal, has worked on getting this program presented in Llano for over 3 months. “We are thrilled that our students have the opportunity to hear Mrs. Brown speak first-hand about the dangers of texting while driving. This tragedy has developed into a successful life-saving campaign. Our students, as well as the high school students, will benefit greatly from this assembly.” The Brown family, recently seen on ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, was presented with a new family home and an office for their organization in honor of their daughter, Alex. Jeanne and Johnnie Mac Brown lost their oldest daughter, Alex, in a single car accident as she drove her truck to Seagraves High School one morning. Although no other vehicles were involved, Alex was not alone. The cell phone on which she had sent and received over 10,000 text messages in the weeks preceding her accident was with her. Alex lost her life to texting while driving. Jeanne Brown, a teacher at Seagraves High School, left her classroom and drove down the highway in search of her daughter that morning. She was the first person on the accident scene. To honor Alex's memory the Brown’s formed The Remember Alex Brown Foundation (RAB) and travel around the country educating others about the dangers of texting while driving. Their message is simple, “As you drive today, please put your cell phone away and drive safely. Your messages will be there when you arrive at your destination. Make sure that you arrive safely, too”. We are honored to have the B.U.S.T. campaign make a stop in Llano.
